Project Brief

Stamford Endowed Schools transitioned from a split boys’ and girls’ model to a diamond structure: co-educational in the Prep School and Sixth Form, with single-sex education through the senior years.

Delivering this shift required a comprehensive estate strategy across two campuses in Stamford. At its heart was the unification of two separate Sixth Form centres into one co-educational hub, located within part of the former girls’ school. The aim was to create a flagship environment capable of supporting a significantly larger student body while setting the tone for the school’s next chapter.

Purpose

This project formed a key part of the school’s new operating model. The Sixth Form would be the final fully co-educational stage of the senior journey, and its environment needed to reflect maturity, independence and a shared identity.

An underused facility was reimagined as a vibrant, multifunctional centre tailored to older students. The redesign introduced a central atrium and lecture theatre, café and dining space, collaboration lounges and a contemporary library. Clearly defined zones now support independent study, group work and social interaction within a setting that feels purposeful and grown-up.

The space was designed to anchor the new structure and foster a strong, unified Sixth Form community.

Key Outcomes

The new centre brings together two previously separate Sixth Forms within one cohesive, high-capacity environment.

Academic, social and wellbeing needs are integrated into a single, energetic hub that is active throughout the day. Students move easily between study and collaboration, and the shared setting has established a clear collective identity for the co-educational Sixth Form.

The result is a confident, future-facing space that reflects Stamford’s strategic direction and strengthens the overall senior school experience.
