Project Brief

St Margaret’s School in Bushey partnered with TaskSpace to deliver a major refurbishment programme across both Junior and Senior School facilities.

The first phase involved key areas in the Senior School’s historic Waterhouse building, including the library, study rooms, and the Oak Room staff lounge, and the second focused on converting unused top-floor space at St Margaret’s Junior into three modern classrooms, washrooms, and a quiet library zone.

Purpose

With pupil numbers at the Junior School set to grow, the school needed to unlock capacity by using space left unfinished in a previous building phase. This required a complete rethinking of the layout, structure, and design to ensure it could serve as a long-term, flexible learning space.

At the Senior School, leadership identified a need to modernise the library, study, and staff spaces to better support academic excellence, wellbeing, and professional collaboration. The projects aligned with strategic priorities around pupil experience, staff morale, and long-term infrastructure investment.

Key Outcomes

At the Junior School, three unique classrooms were created, each tailored to different age groups and teaching styles. A corridor was reconfigured to maximise movement, and an integrated library area was added to encourage quiet reading and study.

At the Senior School, the Oak Room was reimagined as a warm, functional staff lounge with raised seating, an optimised kitchen layout, and lighting to define zones. The library now features custom joinery, a curved central table, and reading areas, while the Rudland Room has been transformed into a boardroom-style study space with AV and acoustic upgrades.

Together, the projects have significantly enhanced the learning and working environment across the school community.
