Project Brief

TaskSpace’s relationship with RGS Worcester began six years ago with an ambitious question: what should the classroom of the future look like?

As an Apple Distinguished School with a strong reputation for innovation, RGS wanted to explore how its environments could evolve alongside its approach to education.

Over time, one principle became clear. The future wasn’t about creating a building filled with the latest technology. Technology dates. Instead, the opportunity was to create an environment centred around people – enabling pupils and staff to collaborate, teach, learn and socialise in ways that work for them.

This vision led to the transformation of the Pullinger Building, previously used predominantly for administration, into the Majhoor Innovation Centre – a flexible, future-focused environment designed to support the wider school community.

Purpose

The project addressed a wider estate challenge. RGS had valuable spaces that weren't being used to their full potential, with areas dedicated to particular functions sitting largely unused throughout the academic day.

With space at a premium, TaskSpace worked with RGS to rethink how the building could deliver greater value, moving away from traditional, single-purpose environments towards a more adaptable approach.

The ambition was to create a building that could support multiple activities throughout the day, from staff use and teaching to collaborative learning, informal meetings and larger events.

Rather than simply refurbishing an administrative building, the project was an opportunity to challenge how school buildings are used and create a lasting asset for the whole community.

Key Outcomes

After years of planning, the project gained an unexpected deadline when RGS Worcester was selected to host the return of a major Apple education conference following a four-year hiatus.

With around 300 education partners from across the world due to attend, and supported by a generous donation, the programme was accelerated. TaskSpace incorporated additional works and delivered the building ahead of schedule, ready for both the conference and the school’s Open Day.

The Majhoor Innovation Centre now embodies RGS Worcester’s philosophy of cherishing its past while continually looking forward.

More than a refurbished building, it represents a new approach to how educational spaces can work – creating an adaptable environment where people, rather than technology, are at the heart of innovation.
