Transforming Learning & Staff Environments at St Margaret’s School
Project Brief
Repton School undertook a complete renovation of its existing Design & Technology (DT) Centre to create an inspiring, modern “Design Centre.” The project involved reconfiguring the layout, installing advanced storage systems, and redesigning the entrance to serve as a gallery-style showcase for student work. The space was restyled with a studio-inspired aesthetic, including black ceilings, industrial epoxy flooring, and integrated ceiling heating.
Purpose
The original DT Centre did not provide the best support for the school’s high educational standards. It had limited storage functionality, insufficient space for machinery, and offered no clear display area for student projects. The environment failed to reflect the quality of Repton’s design and engineering curriculum. School leadership identified the need for a space that better supported creativity, improved workflow, and made a strong visual statement about the school’s commitment to innovation.
Key Outcomes
The refurbished Design Centre has transformed how students and staff engage with the space. The layout now supports a more efficient and collaborative working environment, while high-performance storage keeps materials organised and accessible. The gallery-style entrance creates a sense of pride and visibility for student achievements. The studio feel of the space has significantly improved both functionality and atmosphere - creating a professional, comfortable, and forward-looking environment that inspires high-quality design work.
