Project Brief

Heathfield School worked with TaskSpace to design and furnish a brand-new Sixth Form Centre that would serve as both an academic base and a social hub for senior pupils. This exciting project encompassed the full interior design and subsequent fitting-out of the building. Our designs included all features such as lighting schemes, wall finishes, panelling, and bespoke fittings, ensuring every detail contributed to a cohesive and inspiring environment. The aim was to create a multi-zoned space that looked and felt like a home from home, an engaging social space, and a professional workplace, preparing pupils for the next stage of their journey.

Purpose

The Sixth Form years are pivotal, demanding spaces that encourage independence, collaboration, and self-confidence. Heathfield’s leadership recognised that a dedicated centre would allow students to thrive both academically and socially while also reflecting the school’s commitment to excellence. To make sure the final design genuinely met the needs of the students, the process included focus group workshops, furniture trials, and multiple 3D design iterations. This collaborative approach gave the pupils a voice in shaping their own environment, ensuring it reflected their aspirations as much as the school’s vision.

Key Outcomes

The finished Sixth Form Centre is a striking statement space, combining contemporary design with purposeful functionality. It now provides a range of zones tailored to different activities - from quiet study to group collaboration and socialising - creating an adaptable, future-focused learning environment. Pupils benefit from a setting that mirrors the professional and academic spaces they will encounter after school, helping to bridge the gap between secondary education and university or employment. For the school, the project has delivered more than a new building; it has created an aspirational centrepiece that strengthens its Sixth Form offer and reinforces Heathfield’s ethos of excellence.
