Campus Transformation – Turning Vision into Reality
Project Brief
The school wanted to make better use of a number of well-loved spaces that were no longer fully meeting the needs of its growing sixth form. 6th Form students had been working across several different areas of the site, and the leadership team saw an opportunity to bring them together in one dedicated Sixth Form Centre with a clearer sense of identity and belonging.
A feasibility study explored how this could be achieved while respecting the existing layout and the needs of staff. This led to a carefully planned, three-part project: converting the former staff building into a purpose-designed Sixth Form Centre, reimagining the library as a modern study space, and creating a new staff facility within one of the previous Art studios. Throughout the process, the project team worked closely with staff to ensure the changes felt thoughtful, supportive, and sensitive to each department’s priorities.
Purpose
The main aim was to improve the sixth form experience by creating a calm, motivating and age-appropriate environment that reflects how students learn today. The school wanted a space that supports independent study, accommodates different working styles, and helps students feel part of a cohesive sixth form community.
Alongside this, it was important to ensure staff were well supported following their relocation and that the library evolved into an active study centre rather than simply a place for book storage. Overall, the project set out to create spaces that feel purposeful, uplifting, and aligned with the school’s long-term vision.
Key Outcomes
The completed Sixth Form Centre has been shaped by direct input from both students and staff, who were involved in selecting colours, fabrics, acoustics, carpets, and finishes. The result is a welcoming, contemporary space that sixth form students are proud to use and that supports retention by offering a genuinely aspirational environment.
The refreshed library now works as a flexible study hub, supporting focused independent work as well as quieter collaboration. The new staffroom provides a comfortable and practical base for colleagues. Together, these changes have enriched daily school life and delivered spaces that better reflect the school’s ambitions.
